About Maharal
Rabbi Yehuda Loew, known by his acronym “Maharal,” was a 16th-century mystic, philosopher, talmudist and leading rabbi in Moravia and Prague. His philosophical works became cornerstones of Jewish thought, making a profound impact on chasidic writers as well as modern thinkers, like Rav Eliyahu Dessler and Rav Kook. The Maharal is also known for his first work, Gur Aryeh, a supercommentary on Rashi’s Torah commentary, and is the subject of a famous 19th-century legend about the creation of a golem.
